4 Inch MIPI Round Display Module for Smart Appliance Dials

A slim 720 × 720 IPS round display with native MIPI input for appliance controls, wall interfaces and compact embedded dial systems.

Product Overview

The 4 Inch MIPI Round Display Module gives equipment designers a compact circular interface for smart appliance dials, wall controls and visually distinctive embedded products. Its 720 × 720 IPS panel supports radial menus, status rings, centered values and gauge-style graphics without forcing a rectangular screen into a round product design.

The active display area measures 101.52 × 101.52 mm. The complete LCD module measures 105.60 × 109.86 × 2.13 mm, providing a slim display foundation for front panels where internal depth and visual symmetry both matter.

The standard module uses a MIPI image interface and is specified at 320 cd/m². Touch is reviewed as a custom option rather than assumed to be part of the standard display.

Circular 720 × 720 Interface Design

Circular Safe Area Within a Square Raster

The panel presents a circular viewing area, but the host still generates a square 720 × 720 image matrix. The UI therefore needs a defined circular safe area.

A 720 × 720 round display still uses a square pixel raster.

Important text, alerts and operating controls should remain inside the approved visible circle. The pixels near the four corners can be reserved for backgrounds or non-critical graphics because those regions may fall outside the visible front opening.

Circular-safe design is particularly important for:

  • temperature and timer values;
  • operating-mode labels;
  • warning icons;
  • touch targets;
  • connectivity status;
  • battery or energy indicators;
  • radial progress graphics.

The UI should be tested behind the actual bezel or cover lens before the graphic design is released.

Layouts for Smart Appliance Dials

Round screens support interfaces that naturally revolve around a central value or control.

Suitable concepts include:

  • oven or cooker program selectors;
  • HVAC temperature dials;
  • lighting-control rings;
  • washing-cycle controls;
  • audio volume and source selectors;
  • air-quality indicators;
  • energy-monitoring dials;
  • room-control stations;
  • compact instrument gauges.

The 720 × 720 resolution provides enough space for icons, curved graphics and readable central data while keeping the physical module compact.

IPS Display Performance in Controlled Lighting

320 cd/m² Application Boundary

The module is rated at 320 cd/m². This is suitable for many indoor appliances, wall controls, tabletop equipment and controlled-light embedded systems.

The 320 cd/m² configuration is not a sunlight-readable specification.

Final readability depends on the front structure, including:

  • protective cover transmission;
  • reflections from the cover surface;
  • printed-border geometry;
  • air-gap or bonding method;
  • viewing angle;
  • ambient illumination;
  • enclosure shadowing.

A physical sample should be evaluated behind the intended front cover and under the installation lighting.

Viewing Stability for Shared Controls

The IPS panel structure supports more stable image appearance when the display is viewed from different positions. This is relevant for wall-mounted controls, countertop appliances and shared equipment where users may not stand directly in front of the screen.

IPS performance helps maintain the usability of radial menus, status colors and central values from off-axis positions. Numerical viewing-angle values should still be confirmed in the approved specification before they are used as a procurement requirement.

Integrating the 4 Inch MIPI Round Display Module

MIPI Host and Timing Qualification

The MIPI interface identifies the signaling family, but it does not prove compatibility with a particular host processor or controller board.

A MIPI label does not guarantee lane, timing, voltage or pin compatibility.

Before PCB or cable release, verify:

  • MIPI lane count;
  • lane assignment;
  • clock configuration;
  • native 720 × 720 timing;
  • display operating mode;
  • pixel-clock and frame requirements;
  • logic-voltage domains;
  • complete FPC pin assignment;
  • connector pitch;
  • contact orientation;
  • panel reset and enable signals;
  • backlight power requirements.

A host that supports another MIPI LCD cannot automatically be assumed to support this module.

When a Bridge or Controller Board Is Required

A processor with a compatible native MIPI display output may connect after complete electrical and timing qualification.

A bridge or controller board is required when the host provides only:

  • HDMI;
  • standard DisplayPort;
  • eDP;
  • LVDS;
  • parallel RGB;
  • USB video;
  • another incompatible display interface.

The conversion board must generate the correct native 720 × 720 signal. A generic board designed for 800 × 480, 1024 × 600 or another resolution should not be assumed compatible.

The controller-board option is a separate project configuration and is not treated as a standard included accessory.

Mechanical Integration and Enclosure Fit

Active Area and Module Envelope

The active area measures 101.52 × 101.52 mm. The LCD module measures 105.60 × 109.86 × 2.13 mm.

The enclosure design should distinguish among:

  • circular visible opening;
  • active image diameter;
  • inactive border;
  • outer LCD outline;
  • side or lower extension;
  • FPC exit;
  • connector clearance;
  • cable bend radius;
  • rear support area;
  • front-cover overlap.

The nominal 4-inch size does not define the correct cutout diameter. The approved mechanical drawing should control the final enclosure release.

Optional Touch Stack Planning

Touch is a custom option rather than a confirmed standard feature.

A touch-equipped configuration can alter:

  • overall width and height;
  • total thickness;
  • cover-lens diameter;
  • printed black border;
  • optical transmission;
  • touch-controller requirements;
  • FPC count and position;
  • grounding;
  • bonding structure;
  • front-cover design.

Touch requirements should be specified before enclosure and controller-board approval. Confirm the touch technology, controller, communications interface, point count, cover thickness and combined mechanical drawing.

Recommended Application Profiles

The module can be evaluated for:

  • smart appliance dials;
  • HVAC and room controls;
  • wall-mounted automation interfaces;
  • audio-control knobs;
  • tabletop smart controllers;
  • compact industrial instruments;
  • embedded status displays;
  • premium device front panels;
  • circular menu systems;
  • specialized equipment controls.

Comparable 4-inch round IPS MIPI modules are commonly presented for smart-home equipment, industrial controls and products that benefit from circular interface geometry.

Use in vehicles, medical systems, outdoor equipment or safety-critical controls requires application-specific validation. The LCD specifications alone do not establish regulatory or environmental qualification.

Customization and Configuration Review

Project evaluation may include:

  • optional touch integration;
  • custom cover-lens graphics;
  • FPC shape and direction;
  • MIPI mapping review;
  • brightness target;
  • controller-board matching;
  • air bonding or optical bonding;
  • front-panel mechanical adaptation;
  • packaging;
  • cable and connector requirements.

Custom configurations are generally reviewed from 500 pieces, subject to tooling requirements, material availability and the requested specification. Sample and standard-module quantities are confirmed separately.

FAQ

About 4 Inch MIPI Round Display Module

What must be checked before connecting a MIPI host?

The complete electrical and timing definition must be reviewed, not only the interface name. Confirm the native 720 × 720 timing, lane count, lane mapping, clock requirements, voltage domains, FPC pinout and connector orientation. Provide the host processor’s display-output specification and the approved LCD pin definition before releasing the PCB or cable.

How should graphics be prepared for the round viewing area?

Build the interface on a 720 × 720 canvas but keep critical content inside a circular safe boundary. Text, warnings and operating controls should not depend on the corner regions. Validate representative screens behind the actual bezel or cover lens because the printed border and visible opening determine the final usable area.

Is 320 cd/m² suitable for a brightly lit installation?

It is suitable for many indoor and controlled-light products, but final visibility depends on reflections, cover transmission and ambient illumination. Test the module behind the proposed cover structure under the actual lighting. A higher optical target or a different front treatment may be required for strong ambient light.

Is touch included with the standard module?

Touch is not confirmed as part of the standard display. It is available for project review as a custom configuration. Specify the required touch technology, controller interface, point count, cover dimensions and bonding method so the combined assembly can be evaluated electrically and mechanically.

Which dimensions should control the enclosure design?

Use the approved combined mechanical drawing. The active area is 101.52 × 101.52 mm, while the LCD module is 105.60 × 109.86 × 2.13 mm. The visible opening, inactive border, FPC exit and mounting clearance require additional drawing dimensions and cannot be derived from the 4-inch diagonal alone.
