5 Inch RGB IPS Display Module with ST7262 40-Pin FPC

800×480 Normally Black TFT Module for Embedded HMI and Wide-Temperature Projects

The 5 Inch RGB IPS Display Module is an 800×480 TFT component for embedded control panels, portable instruments, monitoring terminals, and compact operator interfaces. It combines IPS normally black optics, a 40-pin RGB FPC, 500 cd/m² standard luminance, ST7262 driver support, and a slim 120.7 × 75.9 × 3.05 mm module structure.

Host compatibility depends on verified RGB timing, voltage, data mapping, and FPC orientation.

Product Overview

The 800×480 landscape format provides sufficient space for menus, real-time values, alarms, diagrams, status icons, and touch controls without requiring the processing bandwidth of a higher-resolution panel. IPS normally black technology supports more stable viewing from different operator positions than a directional TN configuration.

Wide-angle operator viewing

The 80/80/80/80 typical viewing specification supports equipment that may be observed from the side, above, or below. The actual optical result should still be checked with the final UI, cover structure, mounting angle, and brightness setting.

Standard and optional brightness

The standard module is specified at 500 cd/m². Project configurations may increase luminance to 800 nits or higher, but the final backlight design, power requirement, heat generation, and lifetime grade require separate approval.

Base panel and optional touch

The standard display should not be assumed to include a touchscreen. Capacitive and resistive touch are optional configurations that can change the front dimensions, total thickness, FPC routing, controller requirements, and optical stack.

IPS Display Performance for Embedded Interfaces

The IPS normally black mode provides an 800:1 typical contrast ratio and 16.7M-color output for graphical embedded interfaces. It is suitable for dashboards, control menus, image-supported instructions, and status visualization where consistent off-axis appearance is important.

The 30 ms typical response specification is appropriate for ordinary HMI transitions, changing numerical data, menu animation, and monitoring graphics. It should not be presented as a high-refresh gaming or fast-motion display specification.

800×480 UI planning

The host should generate the display’s native 800×480 timing. Scaling from a different source resolution may require a controller board and can affect clarity, latency, and system complexity.

Dot-pitch and image detail

The 0.135 × 0.135 mm dot pitch supports legible text and compact graphical elements when the interface is designed for the native panel resolution.

5 Inch RGB IPS Display Module Compatibility

The 40-pin FPC carries RGB video and associated control or power connections, but a matching pin count does not establish electrical compatibility. The approved pin assignment must be compared with the host processor, controller board, cable orientation, and backlight circuit.

A generic 40-pin RGB controller is not automatically compatible with this module.

RGB host-board requirements

The engineering review should confirm:

  • Native 800×480 output timing
  • RGB data width and channel mapping
  • Pixel clock and synchronization method
  • Display logic voltage requirements
  • Reset and enable signals
  • Backlight-control method
  • FPC pitch, contact side, and insertion orientation

Interface conversion

HDMI, USB, MIPI DSI, eDP, and LVDS hosts require a suitable conversion or controller board before they can drive a parallel RGB panel.

ST7262 integration boundary

ST7262 is the listed TFT driver IC. Its presence does not define a universal initialization sequence, power sequence, or controller-board match. Datasheet-defined timing and power requirements remain controlling.

Mechanical Integration and 3.05 mm Profile

The active image area is 108.0 × 64.8 mm, while the module outline is 120.7 × 75.9 × 3.05 mm. The enclosure design must provide clearance for the metal frame, FPC exit, connector insertion, cable bend radius, and optional touch stack.

Front-window design

The visible opening should be based on the approved mechanical drawing. Calculating the bezel only from the active area and module outline may expose border structures or obstruct image content.

FPC routing

Avoid sharp folds, compression under fasteners, and contact with enclosure ribs. The physical sample should be used to verify cable direction, connector location, and assembly clearance.

Touch and cover-glass stack

Adding CTP, RTP, or cover glass changes the total thickness and front-surface position. Adhesive, bonding method, touch controller, optical treatment, and mechanical tolerance must be evaluated as one assembly.

Brightness and Wide-Temperature Qualification

The standard 500 cd/m² configuration can support indoor equipment and high-ambient-light installations, depending on cover reflection, viewing angle, enclosure geometry, and UI contrast. It should not automatically be described as sunlight readable.

A higher-brightness configuration may improve visibility, but luminance alone does not establish direct-sunlight performance, waterproofing, optical bonding, anti-reflection treatment, or environmental certification.

The 5 Inch RGB IPS Display Module is presented with a −30°C to +80°C operating range in the main specification data. Because the mechanical drawing carries a different operating-temperature note, the final production grade must be confirmed in the approved datasheet and sample.

Temperature qualification requires more than confirming the panel range; the host board, backlight circuit, touch option, adhesive, cover structure, and enclosure must also meet the project environment.

When to Choose This Module

This module is a strong candidate when the project needs:

  • A native 800×480 landscape interface
  • IPS viewing from multiple operator positions
  • Parallel RGB 24-bit integration
  • A 40-pin FPC connection
  • A slim 3.05 mm base-panel structure
  • Optional CTP or RTP rather than mandatory integrated touch
  • Standard 500 cd/m² luminance with a higher-brightness project route
  • Extended-temperature evaluation

Another configuration may be more suitable when the system requires a direct HDMI, MIPI, LVDS, or eDP connection; confirmed direct-sunlight readability; a sealed enclosure; pre-integrated optical bonding; or a complete monitor assembly.

Recommended Applications

Potential project directions include:

  • Industrial automation panels
  • Equipment and machinery HMIs
  • Portable test and measurement instruments
  • Monitoring and data terminals
  • Smart control interfaces
  • Handheld or mobile equipment
  • Outdoor-facing control products after optical and environmental qualification
  • Auxiliary vehicle interfaces after vibration, temperature, and compliance review

Medical, vehicle, and outdoor applications require separate system-level engineering and regulatory qualification.

Customization Options

Project evaluation can cover:

  • FPC shape, direction, and pin definition
  • Backlight type and brightness
  • CTP or RTP selection
  • Cover glass
  • Mechanical drawing adaptation
  • Controller-board matching
  • Packaging and sample-based validation

A displayed 500-piece minimum applies to listed customization categories, but the final minimum, scope, tooling, and commercial conditions must be reconfirmed for the approved configuration.

FAQ

about 5 Inch RGB IPS Display Module

Does any 40-pin RGB board work with this display?

No. Pin count alone is insufficient; timing, pin mapping, voltage, FPC orientation, and backlight requirements must match.

Can it connect directly to HDMI or MIPI DSI?

No. A suitable controller or conversion board is required to produce the module’s parallel RGB signals.

Is 500 cd/m² suitable for outdoor use?

It may support some outdoor-facing or high-ambient-light installations, but direct-sunlight readability requires project-specific optical and thermal validation.

Is the operating range definitely −30°C to +80°C?

That range is stated in the main specification data, but the drawing contains a different operating-temperature note. The approved datasheet and sample must define the final temperature grade.

What information is needed to approve a sample?

Sample approval requires host timing, pin assignment, voltage, FPC orientation, backlight requirements, touch configuration, mechanical drawing, brightness target, and environmental conditions.
