Designed For

Laptop display integration; bare-cell notebook panel designs requiring a separate qualified backlight/optical assembly

Product Details

NE156FH1-B42 Backlightless Oxide eDP Cell is an exact-model BOE display component for evidence-controlled integration. The supplied configuration is a bare 15.6-inch FHD Oxide TFT-LCD cell without a backlight or touchscreen. Selection should therefore be based on the exact electrical, optical and mechanical record rather than diagonal size or resolution alone.

Three buyer value propositions

Bare-cell architecture for controlled notebook optical stacks

The approved configuration is a CELL rather than a finished backlit LCM. That distinction is useful when an integrator already controls the backlight, films, mechanical carrier or final optical stack. It also means the zero-luminance entry is not a failed brightness specification: the cell itself is supplied without a light source, so final luminance must be established by the separately qualified backlight assembly.

Two-lane HBR1 eDP target for a conventional FHD signal path

The native image path is two-lane eDP 1.2 at HBR1 through a 30-pin, 0.5 mm connector. This gives motherboard and cable teams a concrete electrical target for a 1920×1080 notebook design without implying that every 30-pin eDP cable is interchangeable. Pin mapping, AUX behavior, power sequencing and exact timing remain part of first-article validation.

Thin 1.05 mm cell envelope for space-constrained display stacks

A 349.06×201.89×1.05 mm cell envelope can support slim lid architectures when the customer is building the surrounding optical and mechanical structure. The thin cell also increases the importance of flatness, edge support, FPC routing and pressure control because the finished assembly—not the bare cell alone—must protect the glass and maintain uniform optical performance.

Why the 0 cd/m² value must be read correctly

This model is specified as a bare Oxide TFT-LCD CELL with no backlight. The recorded 0 cd/m² therefore describes the supplied component configuration, not the brightness of a completed notebook screen. A production program needs a compatible backlight, light guide and film stack, then must establish luminance, uniformity and thermal performance on that completed optical assembly. Do not compare the zero value directly with the luminance rating of a finished LCM.

Electrical qualification for the 30-pin eDP connection

The interface is eDP 1.2, two lanes, HBR1 at 2.7 Gbit/s per lane. Validate the exact 30-pin connector assignment, lane polarity, AUX channel, panel-enable sequence and 3.3 V supply at the cell connector. A host can advertise eDP support and still fail if its cable or firmware assumes a different pin map, link rate or power sequence. Repeated cold boot, sleep/wake and lid-cycle testing should use the actual production cable.

Mechanical and optical integration of a CELL

The active area is 344.16×193.59 mm inside a 349.06×201.89 mm outline. Because the cell is only 1.05 mm deep, the receiving lid or module structure must provide controlled support without concentrated pressure. Preserve the exact glass edge clearances, driver-IC region and cable bend zone from the approved drawing. Antiglare 3H surface treatment is part of the cell specification, but the completed stack may add cover materials that alter reflection and haze.

Procurement controls for a bare-cell BOM

Keep the complete BOE model number, exact drawing revision, qualified backlight stack, eDP cable, host timing and mechanical support scheme in the approved BOM record. A future substitute should be compared as a complete cell-level interface package. Another 15.6-inch FHD Oxide panel may differ in source-driver placement, glass thickness, connector location or eDP mapping even when resolution and diagonal size look identical.

Procurement and first-article checklist

  • Confirm the exact manufacturer and model before approving a sample.
  • Use the exact model drawing and connector definition rather than a family-level reference.
  • Validate native timing, interface mapping and power sequencing on the production controller.
  • Compare the full module envelope, connector location and cable routing with the target enclosure.
  • Verify optical performance in the final cover, film and ambient-light configuration.
  • Check component environmental limits against the real deployment profile without inferring unsupported certification.
  • Preserve the approved sample, drawing, cable and host settings with the BOM for future replacement screening.

Quick engineering answer

NE156FH1-B42 Backlightless Oxide eDP Cell provides the specified native resolution, interface and application profile shown above, but exact host, cable, power, mechanical and environmental compatibility must be verified in the final system.

Engineering and sourcing review

For a project review, provide the target application, current panel model where applicable, mechanical drawing, controller/interface information, production cable, optical target, sample quantity and annual demand. That information allows NE156FH1-B42 Backlightless Oxide eDP Cell to be evaluated as a controlled component instead of a generic display substitute.

FAQ

About NE156FH1-B42 Backlightless Oxide eDP Cell

Why does NE156FH1-B42 list 0 cd/m² brightness?

Because the approved configuration is a bare TFT-LCD CELL without a backlight. The 0 cd/m² entry should not be interpreted as the luminance of a finished notebook display. Final brightness depends on the separate backlight, light guide, films, drive level and optical losses selected by the integrator. Validate luminance and uniformity only after the complete optical stack has been assembled.

Can NE156FH1-B42 replace any 15.6-inch FHD 30-pin eDP panel?

No. The exact cell uses two-lane eDP 1.2 HBR1 and a 30-pin 0.5 mm connector, but connector count and resolution alone do not prove compatibility. Compare pin assignment, timing, 3.3 V sequencing, AUX behavior, outline, active area, connector position and the fact that this is a CELL without backlight. A replacement decision should use the exact drawing and production cable.

What must be added to use this BOE cell in a notebook display?

A system integrator must provide the qualified backlight and optical stack, mechanical carrier or lid support, eDP cable, power sequencing and host timing appropriate to the exact cell. The CELL has no integrated backlight, so brightness and uniformity become properties of the assembled display subsystem. Mechanical pressure, glass support and thermal paths also need qualification before production release.

How should the 1.05 mm thickness be handled mechanically?

Treat the 1.05 mm figure as the bare-cell depth, not the thickness of a complete display module. The lid structure should support the glass without local bending or point loads, protect the driver and FPC regions, and maintain the required optical spacing. Check adhesive or foam zones, edge clearances and cable bend radius against the exact BOE drawing rather than copying a finished-LCM mounting scheme.

Does the antiglare 3H surface guarantee the finished screen's reflection performance?

No. The cell is specified with antiglare treatment and 3H hard coating, but a notebook may add films, adhesives, cover materials or an air gap that change reflection, haze and perceived contrast. Use the surface specification as a component-level baseline, then measure the completed optical stack under the intended ambient lighting and viewing conditions.

What should procurement preserve for later replacement screening?

Retain the full model NE156FH1-B42, the approved cell drawing, 30-pin cable definition, two-lane HBR1 eDP timing, 3.3 V power sequence, backlight/film stack and mechanical support design. These records prevent a generic 15.6-inch FHD eDP part from being accepted merely because its headline specifications appear similar.
