Screen orientation, direct solar exposure, reflections, surrounding structures, viewing distance, and content contrast all affect the result.

The completed installation should therefore be tested under representative daylight conditions. Major outdoor-display manufacturers likewise combine high brightness with anti-reflection measures, brightness sensors, protective structures, and thermal systems rather than treating luminance as the only qualification parameter.
